I love the Daily Show, but I found this insulting. To mock public officials is one thing, but to cherry pick the most ignorant comments from a group of private citizens was out of line. It wasn’t even funny.

  2.

    mike Says:

I am sorry but I think the fact that dave is insulted, is even funnier. That is america love it or leave it!!

  3.

    The Humanist Says:

    “cherry pick”?

What…they missed the Young Achievers of Wasilla meeting down the street? The Algonquin Roundtable on the other side of town? Are you saying these people are not representative of their hometown?

Ignorance is best defeated when it is shown the light of day.

  4.

    The Humanist Says:

BTW….are we sure Hank didn’t move to Wasilla?

    mike hudson Says:

michael moore invented this sort of nonsense with “roger & me” years ago. the conceit is that the producers of such drivel contend they are sticking up for “the little guy” while laughing at him instead. i notice no mention here today of the latest cbs and zogby polls, which show considerable tightening in the race following sarah palin’s excellent performance during the vp debate, even though it was universally panned by pundit and other obama cultists.

  6.

    mike Says:

palin’s performance, thats what I would call it too. Sort of like Borat’s movie.

    Queen Carlotta Says:

    Humanist -

Can you imagine the fun they would have if they sent a crew to Buffalo? You appear to be full of so much hatred towards anything that is not Obama that you are unable to determine what crosses the line. This is low class.

    Attack ideas, not people.

  8.

    mike Says:

Queen, buffalo is filled with idiots too, better yet go to the Casino. Our hatred is for idiots of any party.

  9.

    The Humanist Says:

@Queen Carlotta - so, putting a microphone in front of someone and letting them spew their ignorant garbage = attacking people? Sounds like the Palin school of fairness in journalism. “Stop documenting my words, you evil liberal media elite!”

I dare you to find me a clip of an Obama supporter acting as much the clod as that white-bearded oaf in the Daily Show clip.

I define low class as someone who willingly and proudly spouts racist, homophobic garbage into a microphone and expects to be taken seriously.

I have no illusions the Daily Show would find as bad, if not worse, buffoonery in Buffalo than in Wasilla. Lots of racist, ignorant morons here, too.

    Chris Smith Says:

Hudson, what the fuck are you talking about? The polls tightening? Obama has had the best polling weeks of the late primary and general election season in the last fourteen days. He has moved ahead in all swing states. Head over to pollster.com or fivethirtyeight.com and get caught up.

  11.

    STEEL Says:

Ignorance deserves to be mocked. Is someone here suggesting it should be applauded?

    pirate's code Says:

@mike — “Queen, buffalo is filled with idiots too, better yet go to the Casino. Our hatred is for idiots of any party.”

“Our” hatred? What is that? The Hatred Party? Is that a group of posters on this site who, most of the time, promote the “all GOP bad, all Dem good” theories? Do you, mike, share the same hatred (you’re word, not mine) for the Dems that have been in control of Buffalo for, oh, four or five decades and are at least partially responsible for its rather dramatic — and seemingly endless — decline?

Wrap your hatred up with your “that’s America love it or leave it” and we could fill an entire Daily show. Makes some of the good citizens of Wasilla look like Mensa candidates.

    mike Says:

Hudson your buddy needs to change his name to Full Page Tom Golisano Add!! Good work Hudson

  14.

    mike Says:

Pirate, hatred is the queen’s wording but i like it. yes America is filled with morons, its no wonder why the world hates us for our freedom to be idiots. Watch the palin’s speech’s after every sentence theres an BOO, Aww, or Yeaa sort of like the old Morton Downey Jr show. America love it or leave it !!

  15.

    Jim H Says:

Looks like it could’ve been filmed in Blackrock.

  16.

    Queen Carlotta Says:

    Pirate, Mike, et al.

Humanist has a serious issue with Sarah Palin. If anything, hatred is not a strong enough word to describe his feelings towards the Governor of Alaska. Check out his blog. Its an obsession. He just does not dislike her, he truly hates her. He has de-personalized her as an individual. Everything about her must be wrong, foolish or evil.

Why else would a gay man’s blog be centered around an attractive woman?

  17.

    The Humanist Says:

@Queen Carlotta - LOL. You must have me all figured out, including my sexual orientation (WTF?). While I’m flattered that you think I’m gay, I am, in fact, straight. But do go on think my opposition to the most unqualified candidate on a national ticket since Spiro Agnew is rooted in my (alleged) love of cock. It becomes you so well.

I don’t hate Sarah Palin….I don’t know her well enough to hate her. I do have strenuous objections to what little policy views she’s allowed the public to see and those which have been released to the public over her objection. Like, for example, her efforts while mayor of Wasilla, to ban books in the public library and make rape victims pay for their medical exams. Or, in her tenure as governor, her rapacious appetite for the same earmarks and federal pork spending her ticket mate rails against so vehemently. Not to mention, waging a personal jihad against her ex-brother-in-law, using the apparatus of the state executive branch to get him fired.

You are right that I have a serious issue with Gov. Palin. As in Jeebus help us if this religious nutjob gets to the Oval office because she will surely take over as President is McCain wins. He won’t last the first year, let alone a four-year term.

  18.

    Byron Says:

If you measure “obsession” by the percentage of a person’s total posts that are about a given topic - the person here who is obsessed with Sarah Palin is Queen Carlotta herself. I don’t think it’s even close. She throws in a few “Obama is a fraud” posts once in a while; other than that it’s pretty much LEAVE SARAH PALIN ALOOOONE non-stop.

  19.

    mike hudson Says:

chris…the zogby daily tracking today shows obama up by 3. the weekly cbs/reuters poll, also released today, shows obama up by 4, down from a 9-point lead prior to the biden-palin debate. you can look these up, as they are on teh internets.

and humorist, your “dare” to carlotta to come up with a clip badly depicting an ignorant obama supporter is ridiculous on its face. why doesn’t the daily show film in front of the wine store here in the falls, where members of the demographic voting upwards of 90 percent for obama buy their tokay? i can guarantee you’d get some real funny clips.

it’ll never happen though, because the obama cultists would call it “racist.”

    corruptbastardsclub Says:

I live next door to Wasilla, Alaska and have lots of friends from that town. I can assure all you that what you saw isn’t that far from the mark for a number of folks up there - it’s a pretty backward town with lots of pathetically ignorant folks. As an Alaskan I have to say though it was funny - it was at the same time pretty embarassing…

  22.

    Chris Smith Says:

Hudson, why you insist on citing irrelevant national polls in an electoral college election is beyond me. The average of state by state polls shows Obama gaining in every relevant state and beginning to take command of the election. On a national level, I’m more interested in favorability ratings (a predictor of state by state behavior) and Obama is increasing favorably while McCain’s negative ratings keep climbing.

  23.

    Mr. Pink Says:

    BP,

In the interest of fairness…and since you are a Stern fan like me….what about Howard sending reporters to Harlem to talk to folks about the election, yet switching the positions of McCain and Obama. Every person said they were for Obama but agreed with McCain’s positions. It was pretty funny stuff, especially the pro-life part.

I you have camera/tape recorder you can certainly find enough uninformed people to make a whole community look bad.

  24.

    mike hudson Says:

chris…first you said there were no such polls, now you say the polls are irrelevant. it is of course difficult to make a point when the other side keeps shifting the field. i do notice that a few weeks ago, after palin was named to the ticket and mccain surged ahead in both electoral votes and battleground state polls, you didn’t want to talk about those either. now there’s been an ebb and suddenly those are the only ones that matter.

don’t get me wrong. i still think obama’s gonna win. i’m looking forward to it in fact because then i can spend the next four years rubbing the noses of people such as yourself into his failed presidency.

Hudson, you mean worse than the last eight years? Your Papers kind of thin this week, what happened lose a few writers and some advertising dollars?

  26.

    Byron Says:

I guess Little Mikey has given up on his claims - made repeatedly only a few month sago - that Obama would surely lose. Now he says Obama’s going to win, but it’ll be a failed presidency. And he whines about other people “shifting the field”.

Meh. Luckily clowns like him don’t matter.

  27.

    Byron Says:

    “months ago”

  28.

    mike hudson Says:

hi staba. you’re such an asshole. if the paper was a “little thin” this week it is because the company has been systematically robbed over the past 18 months or so by a number of unscrupulous individuals whose names will start showing up in police blotters very shortly.

actually, before byron was even posting here i said obama was going to win. msnbc, which is owned by the largest defense contractor in the world, general electric, has provided two-hour long nightly commercials for him from the beginning. the chosen one of the power elite almost always does win (damn you jimmy carter!) and there’s nothing to indicate this year will be any different.

the reason his, or mccain’s for that matter, will be a failed presidency is because the worldwide financial meltdown is only just beginning. it’s going to get worse before it gets better, and if it only lasts four years we’ll all be lucky.

tell a real estate broker you want to go out and take advantage of the currently depressed housing market or say to a stockbroker you don’t do business with that you think such and such a stock has gone as low as it will go and you’d like to get in. they will laugh at you and tell you to hang on to your cash or, better yet, invest in foreign currency.

by the time this hits bottom, the stock market will be around 8000, and then most of you won’t give a fuck who the president is.
