A … um… Novel Attack Line Against Alice Kryzan

The Buffalo Bean writes:

“Sloppy seconds” is a non-FCC friendly idiom that is most accurately defined here. (Warning: NSFW language at the linked page).

It’s offensive per se, and not a term one would use in polite company. But when using it to describe a female candidate for congress, it is, I think, way way way beyond the pale.

Criticize her policies if you want, but to say Alice Kryzan is the democrats’ or netroots’ “sloppy seconds” deserves condemnation and an apology.

UPDATE: Buffalo Bean responds:

Now isn’t this rich… After eight years of liberal bloggers calling President Bush things like “bushitler,” “bushit,” or “chimpy;” calling black Republicans “house slaves” or “Simple Sambo;” or new ones like calling Sarah Palin “Sarah Piglin,” somehow it’s Republican “old method of thinking” for me to refer to Alice Kryzan as the netroots’ sloppy seconds. Yet, for some reason, I am the one that should apologize for using offensive and “beyond the pale” language? Ain’t that a hoot.

And I guess finding humor in Hurricane Gustav is somehow appropriate.

Where to begin?

First of all, I never called Bush any of those names, nor do I refer to black Republicans as - well, as anything. I never called Sarah Palin “Sarah Piglin”, and never used a derogatory name such as any of those against any person - political or otherwise. Therefore, to suggest that I have some sort of duty to apologize for dumb things other liberals say is patently ridiculous. Furthermore, two wrongs don’t make a right. I was taught that in, like, kindergarten.

As to Bean’s second “point”, I didn’t find any humor in Hurrican Gustav. I found irony in the fact that some Republican fringe whacko Christianist asked like-minded folk to pray for “rain of Biblical proportions” during Obama’s speech, when in fact the first day of the Republican convention was overshadowed by…well, by rain of not-quite Biblical proportions.

If one goes back to my Gustav post and reads it, it isn’t “ha ha, a terrible Hurricane hit New Orleans on the first day of the Republican convention”. Instead, it’s “hey, shitheads, if you’re going to pray to God to do something horrible to people because of their political leanings, perhaps God is teaching you a lesson by screwing with your own convention schedule”.

If one were to buy in to the idea that God would make a political statement by raining on Obama’s speech, then it followed that maybe God was teaching a lesson to idiots who would pray for rain on Obama’s speech by screwing up their own party. Maybe cretins like “Focus of the Family” would do better to pray for things God cares about, like world peace and brotherhood among men, rather than torrential downpours on the heads of Obama supporters.

People still take what the Buffalo Bean say seriously? He’s just a hack. How many people even read his garbage besides people 5 or 6 full time bloggers?

How about Hudson? Did his paycheck wear out from Davis? He’s been quiet since the primary - not even a gloat about Powers loss… must be because Hudson’s boss Davis lost too.

    Buffalopundit Says:

Hudson has taken leave of this site, because when I reminded people of my policy on comments and trolling, I singled him out as being one of the primary culprits of the awfulness that my comments section had become.

He decided to give me a “sieg heil” in an email and piss off. Which is fine. I never banned him - his absence from this site is his own choice.

And, Smiles, let’s keep stuff on-topic as much as possible. Thanks.

    Hudson's Hero Says:

It isn’t that Hudson has taken leave of this site, he is just too wasted to type. That guy is a total scum bag, so you really aren’t missing much.

The Buffalo Bean comments, and those like it that seem to be so prevalent on similar type teh internet sites of all political persuasions, I think is why so many don’t take this seriously — at least in my smallish circle of friends, acquaintences and colleagues. I guess that makes us old-fashioned, but such stuff that so quickly goes so over-the-top generally defies credibility anyway.

And, I mean this as no defense of hudson or anyone else, but the comments about him here prove that reminders of BP’s rules of the road need to be a daily thing, eh?

Ummmm, and again I will post that “Jackson Smiles” called the the now and newly “embraced” Alice a “C”, on several posts right here in the BP blog. I do not recall ever seeing BP apologize to Alice for allowing that sort of vulgar misogyny represented on his site, nor have I seen Jackson issue an apology.

Frankly, until I followed BP’s “shagadelic” link, I had always assumed “sloppy seconds” referred to ill fitting hand me down clothes. I would not be surprised is all but the most jaded among us had any other interpretations of that cliche.

I think the umbrage you are trying to take at the Bean commentary is a trifle over played.

Remember folks. With the Republicans it’s do as we say not as we do.

Can you imagine if that was said about Sarah Palin? They’d be crying sexism and be happy they didn’t have to talk about issues or have her answer questions - again/still.

    Byron Says:

BP is not responsible for what “Jackson Smiles” posts in comments here. Buffalo Bean IS responsible for he posts on his own blog. This apparently is hard to understand, as the same stupid “point” gets made repeatedly.

    Kingsman Says:

Can you imagine if Robert Harding or Alan called her that?!

The Right Wing blogosphere would go nuts….

This is wrong on so many levels, seriously, can’t be just a bit more dignified in their criticisms over there?

    Buffalopundit Says:

Well, Palin was, reportedly, McCain’s second choice for VP, after Lieberman. It never would have crossed my mind to suggest that Palin was McCain’s “sloppy seconds”, because it’s a patently offensive term to anyone paying even a modicum of attention, especially when directed towards a woman.

Secondly, @Facts Plz twice brings up what a commenter wrote about Kryzan on my site. So, let me repeat it for the umpteenth time - I do not respond to every comment, and I generally do not edit or delete comments. My policy on these matters does not, and has not, represented a tacit endorsement of any commenter’s words or ideas. So thanks for your concern.

    Facts Plz Says:

BP the point I was trying to make is that your hypersensitivity to what is written by others on other sites is ironic, in light of your own laissez-fair conduct when it comes to the posting of vulgar, misogynistic, hate speech on your own site.

So thanks for your concern regarding my concern.

  12.

    Buffalopundit Says:

It’s not “hypersensitivity”. It’s commentary on what another blogger wrote as a post on his site. If I spent all my time responding to idiotic or hateful comments, I’d be quite busy, indeed, given their sheer volume.

    jackson smiles Says:

facts plz — i won’t apologize for calling her what i called her - but BP did post an entire entry regarding “cooling down” on those comments.

BP didn’t say those type of things. The problem is Matt from the “bean”, someone who hosts a blog, did say those things.

BP doesn’t have to apologize to Kryzan for something someone else said. The fact remains that the beaner wrote sloppy seconds and he hosts a site.

I hate Buffalo Bean and pretty much everything he believes but ’sloppy seconds’ is kind of funny.

It’s the internet. Tasteless and crude humor is the norm. The sooner people stop trying to apply the same social guidelines to it that govern real life, the better they’ll sleep.

I swear to god if bloggers spent half as much time being outraged at the actual policy of politicians instead of being outraged at every one liner the other side drops that they deem ‘offensive’, my RSS feeds might be worth reading again.

Oh, laws, somebody get me my swoonin’ couch! Such vulgarities should not be tolerated on these nasty old intertubes!

Thank you to Splett for lending some rational thoughts on the subject.
