if — as chris smith suggests — the coming presidential contest is a “generational thing,” he’d best not become too complacent.
because mccain’s generation can kick obama’s generation’s ass.

And, I might add–that all the MSM outlets agree that though the
18-25 year olds are often times the most vocal, they seem to forget to go to the polls on election day. The older folks get out in droves.
No new phenomenon either.

Not a new phenomenon at all. Older people tend to view voting as a civic responsibility, while the younger generation gets fired up and vocal early in the campaign. Whether it’s campaign-fatigue, or disillusionment with the process, younger voters are generally tuned out by the time Autumn rolls around. I also think property owners (who obviously are older than college kids for the most part)have a large stake in both local and national elections (taxes, schools, etc.), as opposed to the 18-25 crowd.

Obama may actually be the candidate to get those younger voters to the polls.

may he?

It also doesn’t help that most of the 18-25’s interested in voting tend to be in college and away from their home districts in November. Many of them don’t realize they can’t just walk up to any polling place and vote and thus they get turned away at the polls.
