I Don’t Get It

Mike Huckabee to an NRA convention:

During a speech before the National Rifle Association convention Friday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky, former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee — who has endorsed presumptive GOP nominee John McCain — joked that an unexpected offstage noise was Democrat Barack Obama looking to avoid a gunman.

“That was Barack Obama, he just tripped off a chair, he’s getting ready to speak,” said the former Arkansas governor, to audience laughter. “Somebody aimed a gun at him and he dove for the floor.”

Um, wouldn’t a normal person hit the deck if a gun was aimed at him?

Is joking about a candidate getting assassinated okay all of a sudden?

Then again, maybe Huckabee’s kid was holding the gun.

David Huckabee, a son of Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, was arrested at Little Rock’s airport Thursday after a federal X-ray technician detected a loaded Glock pistol in his carry-on luggage.

Here’s the video. Forward to .50. The funnier thing is that after making the tasteless “joke”, Huckabee goes on to talk about how democracy cannot exist in a moral vacuum. Indeed, Mr. Huckabee. Indeed.

With these Republicans running against Obama the way they are he may not even need to run his own campaign.
