Congestion Pricing comes to New York City
The New York City Council passed a home rule measure 30-20 (yes, there are 50 legislators on New York City’s council). Now it moves on to Albany. Under the plan, pioneered in Singapore and popularized in London, motorists will be charged $8.00 to drive south of 60th Street in Manhattan. Trucks will pay $21, and this will be in effect Monday through Friday, 6am - 6pm. It is expected that congestion pricing will not only help lower traffic congestion, but also raise close to a half billion dollars per year.

50 nyc council members, no wonder the only thing that passes there without objection is increased revenue increases, and it’ll fly thru state legislature it’s all about the benjamins…in case anyone forgot

At 50 council members that is a relatively small chamber for a city the size or NYC. Compare that to Amherst New York with its 7 board members. On a relative basis Amherst’s 7 legislators per (approx) 100,000 people would be the equivalent of NYC having 560 council members! And people in NWY wonder where their tax money is going.

Five counties, north of six million people– a 50 member body is not excessive. In NYC as in Buffalo the principle work of council members is constituent service, so they are pretty busy. They are also term-limited, which, to my surprise, seems to work out pretty well.
I’m not saying that New York City’s government is great, but relative to Buffalo’s, or to the State’s it is at least functional.

Good! I hope congestion pricing becomes a reality in Manhattan.
Anyone idiotic enough to drive their personal passenger vehicle in Manhattan is either:
A. Braindead
B. Super-rich
C. from New Jersey
D. All of the above
