Jack Davis to Run

He’s in. He says he polled the district, and people are clamoring for him to enter the already well-populated Democratic field running for NY-26.
Davis said a poll he conducted among residents of the 26th District swayed his decision. He polled residents on their thoughts about jobs, the economy, trade, the war in Iraq and Davis’ name recognition.
Unfortunately, they didn’t add that most of those polled thought the caller was talking about Jack Davis, the Mad Magazine illustrator.

The Powers campaign reacts:
STATEMENT BY THE POWERS CAMPAIGN ON JACK DAVIS ENTERING THE RACE FOR CONGRESS IN NY-26
Jack Davis already failed twice to win this seat. Western New Yorkers are looking for something different. They’re looking for a candidate who is actually listening to people from Buffalo to Rochester. They’re looking for a candidate who wants to protect Social Security, not cut benefits. That candidate is Jon Powers.

This is turning into–How many Democrats can you get in a phone booth?
If it wasn’t so pathetic it would be hilarious.

Jack was close last time he ran and no other candidate can match his wealth. I applaud him for his willingness to put so much of his own money into this race. His willingness to spend his own money show his commitment to public service and lack of ties to any special interest groups. I will support him.

Joseph: Jack Davis supports one special interest group: Jack Davis. Unlike you, I don’t think that great wealth is the primary qualification for a candidate. Especially a Democrat. Davis ran a pathetic campaign last time, refusing to do any on-the-ground campaigning. His campaign was, and continues to be, one issue: new tariffs to prevent free trade and “save American jobs.” Major tariffs were last tried in 1930 and, according to most economists, helped turn what was a recession, into the Great Depression. I suspect that Jack’s real reason for supporting tariffs is higher profits for his own company.

granted my economics background is limited, I took a personal finance and a economics of social issues class in college instead of the normal micro/macro economics classes, but it seems to me his idea of jacking up tarrifs will hurt people more than it’s worth by driving up prices on just about everything we buy.

It seems to me he should get a different hobby.

Let him run. Candidates should be chosen by party members rather than annointed by committees. The more the merrier.
