Seems that the renderings. purposely or not, avoided the source of controversy by not showing the interaction between the elevated portion of Route 5 and the adjacent parkway. I can’t figure out the one rendering that shows what appears to be a bridge. I wonder where this is located. NYDOT website shows birdseye view was more helpful. The short animation on the NYDOT website is pretty cool but also avoids the elevated portion. I hope someone takes into account maintenance costs of wooden boardwalk. They’ll look good new. These renderings miss the mark on the source of controversy IMO. Otherwise, great ideas and what seems to be thoughtful planning on tying these areas (Tift, Gallagher Beach, etc.) together. It fortunately didn’t try to include the “elevator to the moon” (to borrow your phrase) to sell this.

If this is the case, then common sense tells you to not invest millions of dollars today in the elevated section of Route 5. Ugh.

All over the country, cities with smart people in charge have gotten rid of expressways inside city limits and thrived.

But we have dumb people in charge and we have unelected state and federal bureaucrats in charge.

i can live with the skyway because i realize we are in a region of economic distress-this is a great project and we should be creative and find ways to live with the skyway.

i really look forward to this project a lot.

Since anything done there is better than what’s there now, moving forward on construction in spite of the pending lawsuits by people who are dissatisfied with the current design seems to be appropriate.

I hope that the project does not become mired due to lack of funding, recession, strikes or litigation. The deconstruction and reconstruction of the Outer Harbor is long overdue.
