Channel 7 Labor Issues

Channel 7 union workers have been without a contract since January 31st, and instead of striking, they’re publicizing their grievances to the public. You can check out their website here, and you may have seen leaflets, bus ads, and lawn signs popping up throughout WNY recently.

It’s a far cry from these days, I suppose. I wasn’t around, but understand that Channel 7 was the news to watch.

    Irv, Tom and Rick was the only news there was to watch in the 60’s and 70’s. I rarely saw a TV on in someone else’s house that didn’t hit 7 for news.

    And Kudos to the employees for keeping the station on the air after the contract ran out. Had there been more of that over the years, there would probably be another 30K jobs still in the area.

    Why does a city the size of Buffalo need three news stations? I understand that the three are different networks, but does the region really need three different nightly news casts?

    If you had fewer local stations, you’d have less competition in the “breathless storm warning report” and “who can make five inches of snow sound the most like a disaster” competitions.

    Wait…that could be a good thing.
