The Island of Misfit Boats

Mayor Brown wants to prevent the docking and mooring of decrepit old boats in Buffalo. I’m looking at you, Aquamarine. Right now, there’s a skeletal boat moored where the Aquamarine used to be. It’s owned by Specialty Restaurants, which owns the mehtastic Shanghai Red’s, and chances are that boat will be sitting there, like that, for quite some time.

The Mayor asked the Common Council to amend the zoning code to require approval before such boats are moored in the future.

Why don’t we get Erie County, the state, whomever, to set up a marine park offshore and get the Shanghai dopes to give it up and sink it there. Turn this end of Erie into a SCUBA park and attract a little biz that way.

Can’t cost too much to do - you pull the plug, down the boat goes, and you let the SCUBA people worry about it after that.

I kind of liked looking at the Aquamarine from the highway - at least some ship was docked in Buffalo.
Aren’t there more important problems in Buffalo like all of the abandoned houses.
A no boat morning measure will not help the waterfront.
What will get rid of old boats waiting of the scrap heap would be some real development, then the threat of old boats will go away.
