Ron Paul: Full of Crap and Venom

ronpaul.jpg

Stemming off the recent uncovering of newsletters that were either written by, or on behalf of, Ron Paul in the early 90s that reveal him to have been a racist, homophobic member of the conspiracy theorist lunatic fringe, (or at best, someone who pandered to racist homophobic lunatic fringe conspiracy theorists), there appears to be more.

Evidently, it may not have been Ron Paul himself who wrote those ugly and ignorant things. Reason Magazine says it was libertarian hero Lew Rockwell.

During the period when the most incendiary items appeared—roughly 1989 to 1994—Rockwell and the prominent libertarian theorist Murray Rothbard championed an open strategy of exploiting racial and class resentment to build a coalition with populist “paleoconservatives,” producing a flurry of articles and manifestos whose racially charged talking points and vocabulary mirrored the controversial Paul newsletters recently unearthed by The New Republic.

Reason explains the evidence that points to Rockwell and Rothbard, and adds:

The [newsletters] published between Paul’s return to private life after three full terms in congress (1985) and his Libertarian presidential bid (1988) notably lack inflammatory racial or anti-gay comments. The letters published between Paul’s first run for president and his return to Congress in 1996 are another story—replete with claims that Martin Luther King “seduced underage girls and boys,” that black protesters should gather “at a food stamp bureau or a crack house” rather than the Statue of Liberty, and that AIDS sufferers “enjoy the attention and pity that comes with being sick.”

and…

The populist outreach program centered on tax reduction, abolition of welfare, elimination of “the entire ‘civil rights’ structure, which tramples on the property rights of every American,” and a police crackdown on “street criminals.” “Cops must be unleashed,” Rothbard wrote, “and allowed to administer instant punishment, subject of course to liability when they are in error.” While they’re at it, they should “clear the streets of bums and vagrants. Where will they go? Who cares?” To seal the deal with social conservatives, Rothbard urged a federalist compromise in their direction on “pornography, prostitution, or abortion.” And because grassroots organizing is “plodding and boring,” this new paleo coalition would need to be kick-started by “high-level, preferably presidential, political campaigns.”

Rothbard wrote in 1992 that it would be a “dream” if the Presidential choice that year was between Pat Buchanan and David Duke. When confronted with all this, Paul acts like every other politician. He deflects and evades. He doesn’t address it head-on and accept responsibility for these writings. He claims not to know who wrote them. Bull. Shit.

Now, the Ron Paul “Revolution” which hasn’t amounted to much as a practical matter, is not based on racism or sexism or homophobia, nor do I wish to paint those supporters with such a broad brush. However, it reveals that Ron Paul and some other leaders of the so-called “paleolibertarian movement” had some extraordinarily ugly ideas not too long ago.

The problem today is that questions are being raised about those writings, and no one has had the stones to take responsibility for them, much less apologize for them. They were written on Paul’s behalf, so he owes his supporters and others an honest explanation and an apology. He may not have been an anti-semite, but he was quite satisfied to seek out their support. He may not have been a racist, but he was all to eager to use racist writings to earn money for his campaigns. I fail to see a distinction there, frankly. Lie down with dogs…

As this libertarian blogger writes,

This looks so bad, and stinks so high. In a sense, it’s worse than racism. It’s not caring about an issue enough to stick up for your own principles, and letting your friends get away with putting your name through the dreck of bigotry.

One up. Here is the real story. I was having a conversation with my wife about the Nebraska mall shooting. Her comment to me was how the guy was mentally insane. My response to her. You know what is more mentally insane than this guy is when an entire nation with some exceptions including myself can be manipulated to believe that we as a nation should invade a country that had nothing to do with 911. Now that is off the charts. So, until you or anybody else in media can give a rational explanation why the U.S. invaded Iraq the whole lot of you can go f**k yourselves. Which is the greater sin.

Wow, talk about poor journalism. You guys are a day late and a dollar short. This old story has been repeated ad nauseum, and Dr. Paul has explained the situation. Nelson Linder from the NAACP has refuted racism charges against Dr. Paul, Dr. Paul has apologized and taken responsibility for what was written under his name, and he also explained during a CNN interview with Wolf Blitzer. Dr. Paul is the only candidate who is addressing the inherent racism in our judicial system, especially regarding the war on drugs. Unlike Dr. Paul, there ARE GOP candidates who are on record having uttered racist statements. John McCain has a history of it, and he did it during the SC debate. Thompson and Huckabee were also inappropriate. Huckabee wanted to quarantine AIDS patients, and he equated homosexuality to necrophilia and pedophilia. Do a little more research next time before embarrasing yourselves with this type of shoddy work.

If you really had researched this you would have known that Ron Paul claimed Moral Responsibility for what was written the first time that these newsletters came to light and continues to do so. Just cause he either can’t or won’t name names means nothing besides the fact that he has the integrity not to lay the blame elsewhere. Yes he said he didn’t write them but he still claims the responsibility for them.

Hmm. Seems to me that you, along with The NEw Republicn ans most of the major media are either terrified by Ron Paul or by the size of the movement that flosk to his ideas. Whenever so many of the media start to sing the same song the same way, it smells. If you really did your research, you would find that there are other candidates with far worse records (How about JOhn McCains recorded ” I hate Gooks and I always will” comment that is never mentioned by pundtis and media?).
Even if your statements in here may be right and they are not, who can ascribe any kind of assumption that is is journalism when you fail so massivley to aim your vitriol at anyone else.
Just makes you look like a sad, manipulated tool.

There were hundreds of newsletters published over 2 decades, and only a handful of racist remarks. This is much ado about nothing. Ron Paul has condemned these isolated racist remarks and disowned them immediately. Let’s move on.

BTW, Murray Rothbard is a Jewish libertarian and was a close ally with the Ron Paul camp.

  17.

    Dagny Says:

The more I read about this, the more I am convinced that - despite what the media would have us all believe - Ron Paul IS being taken very seriously.

Why would I call this breathless hysteria a smear campaign? Because it is wholly focused on what someone’s politically-incorrect opinion was 20 years ago, and decidely not on any of the crucial issues currently facing this country. (we were all politically-incorrect a decade ago, remember that?)

Presidential hopeful, Ron Paul (R-Tx) has a 3 decade long, astoundingly consistent record of being pro-limited government, pro-individual liberty, pro-Constitution, pro-fiscal responsibility. In other words, he threatens the gravy train Washington has become.

Rep. Paul has promised to pardon all non-violent drug offenders, to bring home our troops from the 130 countries they are stationed in, to protect OUR own borders, to reduce the out of control spending that threatens to bankrupt us. www.ronpaul2008.com/issues

Rep. Paul promises to be a President that returns government to its Constitutionally limited role. He is a humble, decent, and incredibly honest man.

Whatever our differences, these ideas are truly worth getting behind.

Frankly, I think it’s a scream. Say what you will about the abilities of Clinton, Inc. and other spin machines in politics, you only made one error.

You could have eliminated any comments from the aformentioned Pauliacs by simply cutting and pasting the “usual responses” to anything that shows Ron Paul as the deluded doddering old megalomaniac that he is.

Most of them have already been laid in your comments.

Gues yall never heard of free speech?Free speech belongs to everyone.
I suppose there’s only one “S” in guess, and any Sothron knows there’s an apostrophe in “y’all”. Perhaps a good control on free speech should be the ability to spell.

You know what is more mentally insane than this guy is when an entire nation with some exceptions including myself can be manipulated to believe that we as a nation should invade a country that had nothing to do with 911

When Ron is to be exposed—CHANGE THE SUBJECT TO 9/11–IRAQ. That’ll throw them off track. Nah, it’s in the playbook.

Wow, talk about poor journalism. You guys are a day late and a dollar short. This old story has been repeated ad nauseum, and Dr. Paul has explained the situation.

ATTACK THE AUTHOR—And as has been done from Nixon to Clinton—DENY DENY DENY!!

What I thought was interesting was an accusation on Hillary:

ALWAYS BRING IN HILLARY CLINTON—MAKE THE NEOCONS AFRAID SHE’LL WIN.
If in doubt, check FNY blog for the “Hillary Denial Updates” from Ostrowski, he’s been doing that for about a year now.

    You are an idiot.
    CHANGE THE FOCUS—ATTACK THE BLOGGER

The neoconservatives are afraid of a legitimate conservative movement with rapidly increasing popular support!

Rapidly increasing—to a 5th in Iowa, in NH–5th, or was it 4th, or does it matter? He did no better in MI. But the only way he’ll leave the race is in a strait-jacket. So he has a devoted group of followers. So did Pastor Jim Jones. I think Goebbels,Goehring,Streicher and Bormann would be considered a devoted group of followers too. So perhaps we shouldn’t slap the Paulians a light one on the tushy just yet.

The more I read about this, the more I am convinced that - despite what the media would have us all believe - Ron Paul IS being taken very seriously.

BY WHO? Not the Media. Not the people in Congress who know him. As der Fuehrer said–the bigger the lie, the more the people will believe it.

Presidential hopeful, Ron Paul (R-Tx) has a 3 decade long, astoundingly consistent record of being pro-limited government, pro-individual liberty, pro-Constitution, pro-fiscal responsibility.

Actually he’s got a 3 decade long record of voting NO. Especially on appropriaton bills that he has earmarks in for his own district, knowing the bill will pass even if he votes no—still got a pork chop tied around his neck to take home to TX.

And of course the best for last: RON PAUL DOESN’T HATE THE JEWS BECAUSE:::Murray Rothbard is a Jewish libertarian.

And that’s why Ron Paul advocates that the Israeli Defense forces bomb Iran if they are found to be developing a nuclear weapon.

GUARANTEED to go over with every Arab nation in the middle east like a massive chili and beer fart in Church. His ultimate goal is the destruction of Israel and every Jew in it.

I could go on, but—what the hell for?

And now, back to the march of the Pro-Paul cretins.

I think the problem this writer has is with white Gentiles who discriminate.

Racist, neo-Nazi, supremacist are all simply racial slurs used against white Gentiles. It is like calling us honkies or crackers.

That is why you will never see a Jew or nonwhite called racist or neo-Nazi in any serious way.

The label racist is selectively given to white Gentiles, is meant to be derogatory, and its use is racially motivated: honky, cracker, racist, etc.

  24.

This article is unsigned. Who is the author? Who will take responsibility for what is written here? Are you going to name names and tell us who the writer is? Senator McCarthy wants to know. Have you no sense of decency sir (or madam)?

More inflammatory unsubstantiated innuendo from an anonymous petulant ‘writer’ with some hidden agenda.

Now you have to ask yourself one question: Why would anyone attack the champion of the constitution and individual freedom? Why would they use a charge of racisim against a man who promotes the ending of George Orwell’s ‘group-think’ where all our individual rights are taken away and subsituted with phony ‘group rights’ based on race, gender, class and a dozen other categories?

Who is the shadow behind all of these venomous cowardly attacks?

You’ve heard of Big Brother. Big Brother is watching you. This writer is just one of his cowardly poisonous minions doing the work of slave masters everywhere and keeping all of us prisoners. Pretending to defend liberty and racial equality, this writer is in reality a shill for the ruling class of fascist dictators.

  28.

    Scott M. Says:

The truly sad thing is these people don’t really give a rat’s ass what was said in those newsletters. They probably even agree with many of them. They are more interested in it hurting Ron Paul.

Much of the stuff written in those newsletters are even more tame than I read on conservative blogs every day.

These same people criticize Ron Paul for getting the endorsement of the Muslims in Michigan.

They really don’t care that racist comments were made, they simply want to use it to damage Ron Paul. And of course, they will make sure at least one MSM outlet covers it the day before each primary. Meanwhile they can’t be bothered to tell you about Obama’s church or Hillary’s staff being a high-ranking member of La Raza. Or what about Giuliani’s pedophile priest that worked on his campaign? His ties to Saudi Arabia? Oh you didn’t hear that? Probably because they are too busy focusing on this hit piece against Ron Paul far out of proportion.

  29.

    ladiliberty Says:

“In order to make our comments useful and interesting, the following guidelines have been established for comment users. In short; don’t act like a libelous or hate-filled tool and we’ll get along just fine.”

Perhaps the writer of this opinion piece should follow his own above guidelines! Ron Paul as a medical doctor and congressman has done more to help the minority’s in this country than any other Candidates combined! From free healthcare to the indigent to fighting for veterans medical rights regardless of race or gender. Austin NAACP disagrees with new republic dirt diggers…
    http://www.usadaily.com/article.cfm?articleID=227844
    http://zealfortruth.org/2008/01/ron-paul-a-racist/

Ironically if the mass media gave Ron Paul the coverage on his campaign platform they gave to the lies from new republic he would win the peoples vote hands down! He is the ONLY candidate running that says what he means and votes the same way. 20 years consistency no flip flopping like all the other so called frontrunners!

  30.

    Scott M. Says:

How about Hillary and Vince Foster? Huckabee and Wayne Drummond - Two raped and dead women. How about Huckabee’s son torturing and slitting the throat of a dog? How about Romney’s part in the WA family getting murdered? Or his torture of his dog on the top of his car? What about Romney staff members posing as police officers? Giuliani’s ties to crime families? Giuliani’s cross-dressing? Multiple marriages, included once to his cousin? How about Giuliani using taxpayer money to impress his mistress?

People died because of these things above. Did anyone die from Ron Paul’s newsletter?

Did you hear about half the things mentioned above? Do they get repeated again the day before every primary?

At worst, Ron Paul is guilty of trusting someone too much. And the result of that mismanagement? Someone said naughty words. Words. Words don’t kill people. But real people died because of the scandals above.

So why don’t we hear about them repeatedly a day before the primaries?

This is all they have on Ron Paul, folks. So they have to just keep repeating it over and over and over. Maybe that’s a good thing, because people are really going to get sick of hearing it.

I personally don’t care about the 20 year old Ron Paul newsletters, or about the Keating Five (McCane) or about Hillary’s lesbian issues, (London Times) or her criminal enterprise in Arkansas and her use of N—- and J– in front of Arkansas Trouper. I do not care about Obama’ s drug use and his raciest church. I care about the real issues facing this nation. I do care about the Huck being financed and propelled (Tyson Foods, Stephens Inc. Fox News) by Clinton cronies as Hillary’s puppet candidate for an easy win for Hillary after primaries. I do care that Romney supporters were caught stuffing straw poll ballots in St. Pete on film and it has gone unnoticed by the main stream media. I do care that Judicial Watch has named Hillary, Obama, Huckster and Rudy in their Top Ten list of corrupt politicians But what I care most about is the orchestrated smear campaign against the only honorable man in Washington, Dr. Ron Paul! The big picture is that with the passing of the Patriot Act and the War Commission Act our Constitution is history. Dr. Paul is the only candidate that intends to reverse these draconian usurpations on our civil liberties. Dr. Ron Paul is the only candidate that addresses the economic policies that have permitted private corporate bankers to hijack our monetary system, calling themselves the Federal Reserve, when they are neither Federal nor are they a Reserve. Dr. Ron Paul wants to end the printing of “money” out of thin air and the unconstitutional I.R.S. He is the only candidate that has proven that he is not raciest. He will end the “War on Drugs”. Historically a crime was an act that harmed the life liberty or property of another. The mere possession of something does not harm other individuals. Based on Constitutional theories of individual liberty that reject collectivist rationalizations of controlling individual behavior for some perceived notions of group harm, we should never have engaged in the “War on Drugs’ without a Constitutional Amendment. First because it is philosophically inconsistent and secondly because there is no Constitutional Jurisdiction. We needed an Amendment to prohibit alcohol back when people read the Constitution. A dumbed down America and a propagandized media has allowed liberty to vanish. Why would we as a nation allow the criminalization of a medical problem and house these non violent drug offenders at a rate higher then any other industrialize nation? An obvious answer to this question is Prison Factories. Wake up America! Slavery is back! Multinational Corporations and our own government have created laws that disproportionately target minorities and what I call “dirty white boys” (blue collar workers) and found a way to shackle them and have them work for pennies on a dollar. These prison factories are are offering all types of goods and services including military gear for our troops. No need to pay minimum wage, insurance, family leave, sick leave or any of those pesky benefits necessary in the free market. Mandatory sentencing after a conviction sends a person to jail for twenty-five years for the amount of heroine you can hold in your hand. Bifurcated trials allows the jury to convict without the knowledge of the sentence, compounding the injustice. Why are all of the candidates silent on this issue except for Dr. Ron Paul? Why has the main stream media tried to smear him, disparage him, ignore him, ridicule him, marginalize him and some say threaten him? He is the candidate for change, a change for Liberty. As Dr. Paul has said, “not even an army can stop an idea whose time has come. Dr. Paul’s message of “Freedom” is being heard around the world! You can not stop us now, this is not a political campaign, this is a Revolution.

Great post if you adhere to the principles of Swiftboating 101. Pretty bad post if you look at the empirical evidence; all the writings, speeches and actions directly attributable to Ron Paul. Ruppert Murdoch would be proud of this blog post.

  37.

    Dave Says:

Wow! Ron Paul is doing fantastic and the neocons and leftists are very scared. The smearing has risen to a frenzied pitch as the corporatists and nanny staters are frantically trying to find some kind of major dirt on the good doctor.

    AND THIS IS SO WONDERFUL!

The owned and paid-for elitists are so stupid. Ignoring Dr. Paul was a much better strategy. As Paul supporters dig into this morass of lies and stretched-truths, they realize there’s nothing there and OUR SUPPORT IS INCREASING AS A RESULT! Here in Chicago, our Ron Paul campaign groups have DOUBLED IN SIZE IN ONLY TWO WEEKS! The vast majority of our new members are disgusted by the obvious obfuscations and smear tactics started by The New Republic and Reason Magazine. They can see the truth through the lies.

Now Ron Paul support is climbing in SC, NV and FL in a direct coorelation to the increase in smearing! People in the US have had it with these tactics and they are going to show it. Paul is now polling higher in IL, CA, NV and SC. He may not win, but this revolution will not end if he loses.

KEEP UP THE SMEARS PLEASE! YOU ARE HELPING RON PAUL!

  38.

    Derek J. Punaro Says:

This is such old news already. Paul has not ducked the issue at all, he’s addressed it directly. If the worst thing they can come up with again Ron Paul is attributing some bad writings to him, which there is no way of proving that he actually did write, that’s fine by me. Show me a video clip or a transcript of any of his public appearances where he says something similar that would corroborate that he wrote any of that stuff.

  39.

    Buffalopundit Says:

To all the first-timers offering their defense of Ron Paul: welcome. Some of the weakest counter-arguments I’ve ever seen, but hey - not a lot to work with.

Derek: You say he’s addressed it. Let’s examine.

“The quotations in The New Republic article are not mine and do not represent what I believe or have ever believed. I have never uttered such words and denounce such small-minded thoughts.

Now, when they’re embarrassing. But at the time, he was perfectly satisfied to let them be released in his own name, to promote his own political career.

“In fact, I have always agreed with Martin Luther King, Jr. that we should only be concerned with the content of a person’s character, not the color of their skin. As I stated on the floor of the U.S. House on April 20, 1999: ‘I rise in great respect for the courage and high ideals of Rosa Parks who stood steadfastly for the rights of individuals against unjust laws and oppressive governmental policies.’

Well, some were racist, others were homophobic and bigoted. The fact that he agrees with MLK and said something nice about Rosa Parks really doesn’t address the content of those newsletters, and smacks of “I can’t be racist - some of my best friends are black.”

“This story is old news and has been rehashed for over a decade.

What’s the relevance of that? He’s running for President now. The question is, do we want a president who is, at best, so negligent as to permit blatantly bigoted writings go out under his own name?

It’s once again being resurrected for obvious political reasons on the day of the New Hampshire primary.

How does attacking the timing of the piece help to minimize the import of those newsletters in any way? Chewbacca Defense.

“When I was out of Congress and practicing medicine full-time, a newsletter was published under my name that I did not edit. Several writers contributed to the product.

Who? If it wasn’t he who wrote it, then who wrote it? Why did he let it go out? To whom was it sent? What was the purpose of it? Did he not read what went out under his own name? Why did he lend his name to it? Is he asserting that it was produced completely without his knowledge or approval - tacit or express?

Because let me tell you, if someone put out a “Buffalopundit Newsletter” that contained vicious bigoted remarks, I’d be suing the living fuck out of whoever was putting it out. Not sitting back and letting it happen.

For over a decade, I have publicly taken moral responsibility for not paying closer attention to what went out under my name.”

WTF does that mean? That doesn’t explain anything, and isn’t an apology or an excuse or anything.

If that statement doesn’t qualify as “ducking the issue”, I don’t know what does.

  40.

    Mike In WNY Says:

But at the time, he was perfectly satisfied to let them be released in his own name, to promote his own political career.

That is an assertion with no proof.

If you stick to known facts, there is no doubt that Ron Paul is not a racist. Anyone who knows him well will agree, including the head of the Austin NAACP.

Austin NAACP President Nelson Linder, who has known Ron Paul for 20 years, unequivocally dismissed charges that the Congressman was a racist in light of recent smear attempts, and said the reason for him being attacked was that he was a threat to the establishment.

Ron Paul is guilty of not personally reading and approving every piece published in his newsletter. Perhaps he should have held up deliveries and c-sections in order to exercise complete editorial control.

When the facts don’t support the smear agenda, speculation appears to be just fine.

  41.

    Rob Says:

If you believe the Reason articles, Paul is almost certainly lying when he says he has no idea who wrote the articles in question. It was Lew Rockwell, and it’s hard to believe Paul doesn’t know that.

  42.

    Rob Says:

Mike in WNY – the Reason article, here quotes from a May 22, 1996 Dallas Morning News: article:

“According to a Dallas Morning News review of documents circulating among Texas Democrats, Dr. Paul wrote in a 1992 issue of the Ron Paul Political Report: “If you have ever been robbed by a black teenaged male, you know how unbelievably fleet of foot they can be.”

Dr. Paul, who served in Congress in the late 1970s and early 1980s, said Tuesday that he has produced the newsletter since 1985 and distributes it to an estimated 7,000 to 8,000 subscribers. A phone call to the newsletter’s toll-free number was answered by his campaign staff. […]

Dr. Paul denied suggestions that he was a racist and said he was not evoking stereotypes when he wrote the columns. He said they should be read and quoted in their entirety to avoid misrepresentation. […]

In the interview, he did not deny he made the statement about the swiftness of black men.

“If you try to catch someone that has stolen a purse from you, there is no chance to catch them,” Dr. Paul said.

He also said the comment about black men in the nation’s capital [that ” that 95 percent of the black men in Washington, D.C., are “semi-criminal or entirely criminal.” “] was made while writing about a 1992 study produced by the National Center on Incarceration and Alternatives, a criminal justice think tank based in Virginia.”

As Alan said, he didn’t deny writing the articles back then.

    @Mike:

That is an assertion with no proof.

    (1) they went out;
    (2) under his name; and
    (3) he subsequently sought and won election to office.

If you stick to known facts, there is no doubt that Ron Paul is not a racist. Anyone who knows him well will agree, including the head of the Austin NAACP.

    Maybe he’s not a racist.

That does not change the fact that he tacitly and implicitly endorsed racist, bigoted rantings to go out under his name. He could have - but did not - contemporaneously denounce any of it, or halt their publication, or reprimand anyone for them.

Seriously, Mike - I know you support the guy, but are you going to sit here and argue to me that Ron Paul had nothing whatsoever to do with the “Ron Paul Political Report”? He didn’t send this letter out? It’s got his signature on it, and I have to say I have little nostalgia for the black helicopter conspiracy theorist days of militias and “New World Order” fearmongering. That letter was sent by Paul to get subscriptions to his newsletter, and the letterhead reads “Congressman Ron Paul”. He used the title for political reasons, because the newsletters were politial in nature.

Ron Paul is guilty of not personally reading and approving every piece published in his newsletter. Perhaps he should have held up deliveries and c-sections in order to exercise complete editorial control.

Riiiiight. If he was so busy with his busy OB-GYN practice, why put out a newsletter at all? Why put out a newsletter with your name plastered all over it if you don’t expressly endorse everything contained therein?

Yeah, it is kind of important that Ron Paul exercise complete editorial control over the “Ron Paul Political Report”.

When the facts don’t support the smear agenda, speculation appears to be just fine.

There’s nothing speculative about it. The facts - and the newsletters, and the subscription letter - speak for themselves.

Why put out a newsletter with your name plastered all over it if you don’t expressly endorse everything contained therein?

Because the mission for the newsletter was to put out articles supporting freedom, liberty and the Constitution. Unfortunately, some of his staff did not follow the mission. Perhaps we should insist that the Pope personally approve each sermon before it is delivered to the congregation.

You could label supporters “anti-establishment” or the those that support Bush just as well by saying “go with the flow” voters. Try looking at most of Ron Paul’s views and you will see that he is more Republican than any candidate.

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

Should we dismiss these oaths? Should smiles, feel good talk and empty promises matter more?

Who has protected and preserved the rights of all people better while under oath regardless of what inaccurate preconceived notions they may or may not have had in their heart or mind in a past life? Does a 5o year commitment to one woman matter anymore? Does a willingness to risk life and limb to serve as a Vietnam veteran flight surgeon matter? Does it concern you that a Doctor worked for free or reduced rates to protect poor people of all races from harm? Why does Dr. Ron Paul have more support from our military and heroic veterans than any other candidate?
How is it possible they knew about him way before the rest of America?

My wife and I have been canvassing for Ron Paul for several weeks now. Out of hundreds of calls made, only three have mentioned the “racist newsletter” issue. All three of them saw it as a flimsy political attack… especially in view of the mega-tons of other shameful actions by the mainstream media to make Dr. Paul appear to be “fringe, racist, and unelectable”.

You make me sick. As a decorated veteran, I take great offense at your callous attempt to baselessly smear the only presidential candidate (Republican or Democrat) who would get us out of Iraq immediately. You remember that, do your homework read his published books and then draw a line from what he says there to the the Newsletters in question. When you do this you will see that NO VENOM of racism exists in these books. There ought to be, right? As for what to do about the pandemic of AIDS that afflicted the Gay community many scientists and research pioners said much of what he allegedly mused. Callous now, but at the time no one had a clue how HIV could spread. Heck I know a young hemophiliac that contracted and died of AIDS just last year, even now people that knew were calous.

Dr. Paul books that have “racist and homophobic venom”:

Further Racist Rants and Homophobic Conspiracy Books by Dr. Paul:
•Evaluation of Renal Biopsy in Pregnancy Toxemia
•Gold, Peace, and Prosperity: The Birth of a New Currency
•The Case for Gold: a Minority Report of the U.S. Gold Commission
    •Ten Myths About Paper Money
•Mises and Austrian Economics: A Personal View
•Freedom Under Siege: The U.S. Constitution After 200 Years •Challenge to Liberty: Coming to Grips with the Abortion Issue.
    •The Ron Paul Money Book.
. A Republic, If You Can Keep It.
•The Ron Paul — Liberty In Media Awards — 2001. Jersey
•A Foreign Policy of Freedom. Lake Jackson
    •Pillars of Prosperity.

Once you compare the writerly style and prose you will come to the conclusion that Dr. Paul is an honest man and did not author the newsletter.

Other candidates have been caught uttering racial slurs, but nothing has been said about that. What do you think about the lack of coverage on their scandals and slurs? Nobody has proof of Dr. Paul saying anything like that. It is the inconsistency in the media that bothers me. Support Ron Paul or not, his treatment by the media as well as by the “pundits” during debates is shameful, showing a total lack of respect and maturity. Then again, maybe not too surprising seeing as how most of the electorate haven’t the first clue about the policies their candidates atually espouse. We are a soundbite nation. See you in the soup line.

    Hey guys,

Here’s the newest of the rehashed article.

    http://www.infoshop.org/inews/article.php?story=20080117134400558

These guys are tireless. They keep posting this BS a couple of times a day. I’m wondering who is in charge of coordinating this effort. Is it another Republican? I don’t think it would be a Democrat at this time.

It appears that they will post an article, get a lot of response from the blogs and then repost in another form.

The questions are: Who’s coordinating these attacks? What is their source of funding? What is their ultimate agenda. It has nothing to do with racism or the content of the newsletters at this time.

  74.

    Rob Says:

I didn’t say he was a racist; I was responding to your (and others’) posts saying that he’s not responsible because he didn’t write the articles in question. For these two at least, that isn’t true - he did write them.

  75.

    Retrocon Says:

    Steve,
I’m active duty military, and I see things from a different perspective. The climate of fear for the past eight years has created the perception that if you DON’T support these endless wars, that you are somehow less American, or not patriotic. These wars are unique in that for the first time, the public isn’t sacrificing along with their warfighters, as the did in WWII. There isn’t a draft (yet) like Vietnam. The public verbally supports the military without having to share the sacrifice. Contrary to what McCain, Graham, and the others say…the troops don’t just “want to win”. They want to come home. This war has already lasted longer than WWII, and the conditions for victory haven’t even been elaborated on. How can you win a “war on terror”? I cannot support anyone already willing to obligate my children’s and grandchildren’s lives to these adventures which are not truly in the interests of the American people, and which are un-Constitutional. I wish that people would take the time to read and understand that we are in large part simply reaping the results of decades of extremely poor foreign policies. The only candidate I can see who will end this is Dr. Ron Paul.

  76.

    Rob Says:

Or at least, he said in 1996 that he did. I guess now he disavows them, which makes the story even stranger.

    @roots:

The questions are: Who’s coordinating these attacks? What is their source of funding? What is their ultimate agenda. It has nothing to do with racism or the content of the newsletters at this time.

    I’m so glad you asked!

The attacks are being coordinated by the Trilateral Commission and the Council on Foreign Relations, who are being funded secretly by the Israel Lobby through its various and sundry front organizations. The metal anti-counterfeiting strip embedded in the New Money in my wallet alerted me through the government chip in my head to this particular issue, and I commanded the folks at Reason to print it, so that I and my many minions could spread it through blogs.

Once I had posted it early this morning, I noticed a large deposit in my secret numbered Swiss bank account. I checked the balance after the black helicopter flew overhead, which was the pre-arranged signal with my Big Brother masters in Washington and Brussels, who are running the One World Government.

If you have any questions in addition to that concerning this planned and coordinated attack, please feel free to contact my handler whose name I don’t know, but whom I reach at — oh no. The FBI is here with their AK-47s! Gotta go!

FOX NEWS reportedly deleted Ron Paul’s key debate response from the last debate in a LIVE REBROADCAST they recently aired. How is it a LIVE REBROADCAST if you splice out that which you don’t want the voting public to hear? Like Ron Paul or not, this should disturb you in my humble opinion.

CAMERON: Congressman Paul, yet another question about electability.
Do you have any, sir? There’s always the question as to whether or not…
    (LAUGHTER)
… you are, in fact, viable. Your differences with the Republicans on the — with the rest of the Republi-cans on this stage has raised questions about whether or not you can actually win the Republican nomi-nation, sir.
PAUL: Well, we’ve only had two little primaries so far. So it’s pretty premature to decide which one is going to be the candidate.
But, you know, when you think about it, if you measured everything I’ve ever said, every vote I’ve ever taken against the Constitution, you know, I’m a strict constitutionalist.
Are you suggesting the Republicans should write me off because I’m a strict constitutionalist? I’m the most conservative member here. I have voted, you know, against more spending and waste in govern-ment than anybody else.
    (APPLAUSE)
So you’re suggesting that I’m not electable and the Republicans don’t want me because I’m a strict fiscal conservative, because I believe in civil liberties? Why should we not be defending civil liberties and why should we not be talking about foreign policy that used to be the part of the Republican Party?
PAUL: Mr. Republican Robert Taft didn’t even want us to be in NATO and you’re saying now that we have to continue to borrow money from China to finance this empire that we can’t afford?
Let me see if I get this right. We need to borrow $10 billion from China, and then we give it to Mushar-raf, who is a military dictator, who overthrew an elected government. And then we go to war, we lose all these lives promoting democracy in Iraq. I mean, what’s going on here?
    (APPLAUSE)
And you’re saying that this isn’t appealing to Republicans? Where did this come about? I think this is the Republican message. I defend the platform. It used to say we’d (inaudible) the Department of Education. It doesn’t say that now.
We, as Republicans, went and doubled the size of the Department of Education, so where have we gone? I think we’ve lost our way. And then the insinuation that I am less Republican because of that?
HUME: Congressman, thank you very much.

In response, the official Ron Paul 2008 Campaign blog asks,

“…how could any semi-reputable news source cut a presidential candidate’s answer in a debate? And how could a network that hundreds of thousands of conservatives trust delete the most forcefully conservative, Constitutionalist, anti-statist answer that any candidate gave that night?”

You should get facts straight and be on the up and up

Before I ever actually read anything about Ron Paul’s positions on various issues or his dubious congressional record, I knew he must be a piece of garbage because of the sort of supporters he had here on the Niagara Frontier.

Many of those have obligingly weighed in on this thread, and I would urge anyone who might be undecided about Paul’s “candidacy” to give them a read.

The hits keep coming from James D. “Dots of ink on a computer screen”? Reminds me of when Jonah Goldberg (a/k/a The Doughy Pantload) advised one of the Republican candidates to “buy up a U-haul truck full of paper and start faxing out” some newspaper article or something. Yeah, because faxes actually shoot pieces of paper through the cables - somehow . . .

Rob says: sarcastic things that don’t have much value.

Dear Rob (that’s sarcasm for the literal-minded),
I’d suggest you put some energy into seeing beyond the surface of things. Computers and robots get things wrong because they take what is said literally. Sometimes people act like robots and accept communication in a literal way. Sometimes people read the Bible and the Koran and do the same.

Intelligent people (like you) look beneath the surface of words and focus on what is being communicated. If you think about the electorate today you may find millions of voters believing the words of the candidates instead of focusing on their actions.

Ron Paul has a 30 year history of consistent principled action. Compare that with the other candidates who flip and flop and pander to whatever will get them votes. An intelligent guy like you might choose principled action over expedient words.

But then the choice is yours (and don’t put any ink dots on your computer screen - they are very hard to get off).

    Buffalo Pundit,

Do you actually disagree with any of Dr. Paul’s platform?
If so, why not write about that?

For someone who is racist, he seems to be the only candidate offering solutions that would help minorities. Dr. Paul is the only one willing to end the ‘Drug War’ noticing that there is an inordinate percentage of minorities in prison for drug usage.

So, let me get this straight, if you are a Republican who does not agree with invading sovereign countries who pose NO threat to our national security…you are cultish? Interesting.

Really, what are the main differences between Dr. Paul and the others? Obviously, he has a much stronger grasp of the economy and monetary policy being the ranking member of the House Finance Committee. He disagrees with our occupation of Iraq. He voted for going after OBL in Afghanistan.

Is it possible to make it about the issues?

Wow. Nice way to stick that ‘911 truth’ poster in there with the Ron Paul stuff. Trying to associate the brunt of his supporters and the man himself with conspiracy theorists still? How touching.

Forgive me if just looking at the image at the top fails to move me to give a flying three donkey asses about the ‘crap and venom’ YOU are apparently full of.

I am half Cherokee. I am a lesbian. I support Ron Paul. Suck my clit.

My question is who coordinated the attacks on this blog, ranging from 9-11 conspiracy theory post to attacks without logical sense to (mostly) red herring after red herring after red herring. The only argument that even holds a drop of water is that he didn’t write it himself; regardless, he still authorized it.

Old News? The guy’s running for president; absolutely nothing is old news. Period. We’re talking about Guiliani’s 3 divorces, Romney’s flip-flops, and Hillary’s entire career.

    How’s the Kool-Aid taste, cultists?

With the exception of Dennis Kucinich, Fred Thompson (occasionally), Barack Obama and Ron Paul (always) few of the candidates seem to take the *US* Constitution seriously anymore. Our economy and our Constitution are both imploding. This should give us pause or should it? Perhaps we should scrap it and start anew? After all, once in office our elected representative must swear to uphold the *US* (not foreign) Constitution for all people. This includes even their most hated adversaries. People at the extremes defend it because according to this document they deserve equal protection under the law just like everyone else. I support Ron Paul. I love people of all races, religions and sexualities. I happen to be straight and black if you must know. The Ron Paul supporters I know love their country passionately. They are not racist, sexist pigs with tin foil hats or 911 truthers. They are hard working, decent wonderful people who volunteer in their community and take the time to educate themselves on the issues. They are a threat to the establishment because they think outside the box. Please consider voting for Ron Paul. Thank you for your time.

Do not vote for Ron Paul. If you don’t like George Bush, get the hell out of the United States! Follow the rules! Stay in your homes. Obey your television. Do not think for yourselves. Give up more rights. Keep pissing off the rest of the world. Bush is a great leader. Jesus wants all Muslims dead. The United States Government is NEVER wrong, mistaken or negligent! How dare Ron Paul trust the people with their own lives? He is clearly insane. We must kill our enemies and arm our friends, until our friends stop doing what they are told. Then we must kill them. Do not question anything. Keep your mouths shut, you unpatriotic anti-American, commie terrorist homosexual drug-addicted radicals. Lay down and be ruled!

    Awesome!

Thanks, Alan, for dredging up old news on a candidate garnering 6% of the vote because you don’t like one of his more vocal supporters here in Buffalo.

I eagerly await your next hard-hitting piece on Dennis Kucinich, Alan Keyes (yes i am aware he’s not running), Fred Thompson, Rudy Giuliani, Mike Gravel, Christopher Dodd, Duncan Hunter, and all the other folks who have zero chance of being elected. I hear a few of them may have some issues as well.

But instead I will look forward to your telling me I’m not voting for Hillary because I am “afraid of a strong woman” or Obama because I “hate brown people”.

Not that there’s anything bad you could write about Hillary…

Yeah nobody is voting for the guy who follows the US Constitution so make you don’t either. He can’t win so vote for us. You swear to uphold what? Civil liberties? Free speech? The US Constitution. What the hell is that? Click on the “Ron Paul Blog” 2 entries above and give us all your personal info. Suckers!!! HAhahaha. Screw the US Constitution. Screw the Economy. Don’t vote for Dr. Paul.

Don’t vote for the Duke Medical School finance nerd, Dr. Paul, the guy who has studied economics for 30 years and ran several of his own successful businesses while providing free or reduced cost healthcare to poor people of all races so they won’t die prematurely. The guy with the A+ average will never win.

    Rob Says:

Again - you’re saying that it’s absolutely nuts to think that Ron Paul wrote the articles in question, when at one time he himself said that he did (or two of them at least), and only later said that he didn’t?

  115.

    Rob Says:

To clarify: I believe him when he (now) says he didn’t write the articles, and I don’t believe he’s a racist. But believing otherwise, at least as to the first point, isn’t crazy.

Why do Paul supporters think that he claimed authorship of the 2 articles back in the 90s?

    Cooltruth Says:

I’m voting for Ron Paul because he sounds like the only candidate with enough intelligence to reduce the size of an over bloated government. I don’t see any point in keeping troops in Iraq indefinately. We need to elect a President who will stop ‘foreign aid’ at least until things in this country that need attention get fixed. It’s the ’semitics’ who are spreading the lies that Ron Paul is racist because he opposes their war on Arabs in the Middle East. These semitics WANT the country to pay for their stupid war against the Arabs because they’ve ALWAYS been racists against Arabs! Past Presidents(Jimmy Carter in particular) have spent a lot of time & effort trying to bring about peace in the Mideast. After all their efforts these people just go right back to fighting. Maybe it would be more in our best interests to leave them alone & let them kill each other off if they keep refusing to work out some sort of peacefull settlememt of their issues. How does sending troops to Iraq help our country? IT DOESN’T improve anything for the USA nor does it “keep us safe” from insane terrorists attacks. Ron Paul appears to be the only candidate with enough intelligence to understand this. For this he gets called a ‘racist’? Maybe those who want innocent Iraqi civillians to be killed are the REAL RACISTS! Now watch the chickenhawks call me ‘anti-semitic’ because I’m against their genocide of people in Iraq! Read the platforms of the candidates before casting your vote. At least then you will be a more informed voter than those who vote based on media sound bytes or various assorted smears. After reading where they stand on the issues, I decided Ron Paul would make the best President of the group of them based on a number of issues. You might or might not come to the same conclusion. This election is too important to ‘yellow dog vote’ in the primaries! We will need the best & brightest President we can get.
