Albany? Transparent?
It is to laugh.
At the heart of “Troopergate” is the allegedly improper use of the state police to keep tabs on Senator Bruno’s use of state aircraft, right?
First of all, WTF do we need state aircraft for? $10,000/hour for a Gulfstream or $200 for a peak JetBlue ticket. Which makes more sense?
Secondly, use of state aircraft should not only be readily available to the public, it should be regularly disclosed. As the Times says,
Bottom Line: timely travel records should be public, period. Member items should be public, period. Capital expenditures should be public, period. Personal expenditures by legislators should be public, period.
Legislators who want to operate in secret belong in another line of work.

“Personal expenditures by legislators should be public, period.”
Ummm, what?
Does that mean we have a right to know how much Dale Volker spends at Wegmans, along with a copy of his grocery list?
I assume the Times meant any expenditure of PUBLIC dollars. At least I hope so. What they do with their own money is, frankly, none of my business.
