In a Long Island speech yesterday, Governor Eliot Spitzer suggested for the first time that he might be willing to consider a state-imposed cap on property taxes. If the governor is serious, it could be a turning point for heavily burdened New York property owners.

At this point, at what people pay for prop. tax up there,
a cap would be a weak “end of the beginning”, nothing more.
My house in NC, appraised at 100K, (Could sell it now for 140, paid less than 100K 7 years ago) on 1 acre of land, 1900 finished sq. ft. Property tax 736.00 this year.
WARNING: Don’t look for it in NYS, it’s NOT happening.

Your house sounds kinda like mine, size wise. So do your property taxes (mine actually came DOWN). Only differences are I’m on only 1/2 acre and not in NC.

Big deal. With all the other taxes, fees, fines and other levies, NYS still has plenty of revenue sources to play with.

Told you Spitzer would make a fine governor.
After all the years of the dreadful Pataki administration, Spitzer is kicking ass and moving the great state of New York forward.
