10:34 Update
On the Mayor Brown’s car got stolen story:
The thief who stole Mayor Brown’s sport utility vehicle probably had a key, Buffalo Police Commissioner H. McCarthy Gipson said today.
“I guess it would appear that’s a distinct possibility,” Gipson said as he mentioned that the steering column of the Chevrolet Equinox had not been damaged … one way thieves override the ignition system to rip off a car.
Gipson also said there was no discernible sign the Chevrolet Equinox had been broken into.
The “thief”
- had a key
- didn’t damage the glass or the steering column to get in or get it started
- was driving towards the Mayor’s house at the time the accident happened
- got out of the car and walked towards the Mayor’s house after the accident happened.
Somehow doesn’t seem to me to be some random grand theft auto.

Ooops. I think I know whose driving privleges have been revoked, assuming he had a learner’s permit: BWB III.
Nothing like another cover-up in the Brown Administration to get the city moving in the right direction. If Casey is Karl Rove does that make Cutler Tony Snow? Actually Tony Snow is a sympathetic person right now with the reoccurrence of his cancer. Cutler’s just a regular old pr guy hired to keep the mayor from telling the truth to the media.
Remember, cutler’s ex-wife was hired as the city’s finance person. I’m sure she was the best candidate for the job, and if you believe that I hear Hank has some prime land for sale somewhere in the foothills of N. Carolina.

heh… Cutler is a drunk who has enough problems of his own to cover up.

Seems the Brown family can do anything they want,,,,,,and have lots of city top officials to clean up after them!
And we thought Flynn was the Hooligan,,,,,looks like he has competition from Byrons wife or kid!

Isnt it ODD when/where politicians are INVOLVED….., things are ALWAYS CONTRARY TO THE OBVIOUS??
Lionel Hutz Says:March 29th, 2007 at 7:07 pm
Hmmmmm, could the CitiStat computers calculate the probabilities of that combination?
What I found amusing was the police dept’s quote in the paper that they won’t investigate this any more than they do a theft of an ordinary citizen’s car (yet they assign cops to watch the mayor’s house for security reasons – mayoral house security yes very important, mayoral car security… yawn, boring).
Maybe some more Homeland Security pork funding is needed.

hey, teenagers are SUPPOSED to crash cars.

Maybe it was the same guy who sucker punched Margie Griffin a few years ago. Remember, they never caught him either!
Viking Says:March 29th, 2007 at 9:44 pm
If the Mayor admitted, this issue and others were mishandled, would it matter. Everyone makes mistakes, that’s part of learning, what lesson could be garnered from the issues of the past week. Not only the Mayor but all of us may need to reflect on the experience.

I’m surprised Brown, Casey and Tobe haven’t blamed Mayor Masiello for stealing the car. They’ve blamed him for everything else.

I grew up on a pretty steep hill, which was great for skateboarding but not so much for bike riding. The best part was being able to sneak dad’s car out by putting it in neutral, sticking my foot out the door to push off down the driveway, and if I got enough momentum I could get it about halfway down the street before the engine kicked in. The only challenge was getting the car back into its normal spot 1) quietly and 2) before my dad got up for work. I pretty much stole the car every night for about a year, until that one morning I pulled in and all the lights were on…
Helen Wheels Says:March 30th, 2007 at 1:17 pm
Every teen has stolen their family car. It would do the mayor good to say “My kid is just like anyone else’s and he’s gonna get a whoopin’ for this. By the way, I will personally pay for all repairs of everyone’s vehicle that was damaged out of my own pocket. Of course, Junior will have to work off every dollar.”
I think if Byron came out like that, just about everyone in WNY would understand and admire his candor.
Unfortunately…………………………………

Viking, I tihink it would matter in this case, if the Mayor speaks from his heart and addresses the facts involved straight on. Speaking honestly about such an event takes away the media’s ability to spin it out of control. Yes, everyone makes mistakes. Teenagers crash their parents cars and lie about it all the time. They eventually get caught and the situation is handled privately as a family matter. If the Mayor comes out and states this is indeed what occurred, I am sure that his family based approach to responding to such an incident will include his son paying the consequences for his actions, and then some.
Additionally, perhaps this ridiculous “cover up” attempt will encourage more honest reactions to inevitable upcoming bumps in the road.

Why our pols feel the need to cover up things that happen to lots of people in public and private life is beyond me.
If your kid does drugs, or crashes a car, sure it doesn’t reflect well on your parenting skills, but anyone who IS a parent knows it’s not possible to keep a thumb on your young’uns 24/7. You do the best you can, it’s all you CAN do.
Hawk, lots of prime land down here, getting more expensive all the time.
Land that sold for 4K an acre in 1980 goes for 30K now. If you’re getting fed up, no time like the present. Don’t forget. Land isn’t Doritos, they’re not making any more.
Viking Says:March 31st, 2007 at 3:17 am
The point I was trying too make was, taking the responsibility for mistakes and correcting the error is rewarding in and of it’s self. The perceived rewards of inappropriate actions are out of proportion to the damage done to ones self esteem, you can never fool yourself and if you do, you are a fool.
Greg Says:March 31st, 2007 at 9:48 am
I agree with most of Helen’s post
I never stole either of my parents’ cars though, so I can’t agree with the “every teen” part
James Says:March 31st, 2007 at 11:14 am
The possibility of Masiello stealing the car has not been ruled out.
Well, we all know who didn’t steal the Mayor’s vehicle: Anthony Capozzi.
HelenWheels Says:April 1st, 2007 at 5:35 pm
Interesting side note, the woman and her father on the news talking about the damage done to her Ford Ranger are the daughter and husband of Betty Tryjankowski of the citys Inspections Department and good friend to Peter Kleman. So, what is going on inside City Hall? Is this mutiny?
Greg, sorry about the “every teen” comment. I guess I was remembering my teenhood a bit too much as I used to take my parent’s car without permission. One day I ended up on the front lawn as it was my first time ever trying to drive on my own. I got me a whooping, too.
Dick Kern Says:April 4th, 2007 at 8:27 pm
I’d be totally willing to forgive Byron’s son for the overpowering appearance that he “borrowed” one of the family cars without permission . . . . if Byron punished his adolescent public relations guy Peter Cutler for a much more serious “adolescent prank” that involved both drinking & fleeing the scene of a crime.
That happened on Downtown Delaware Avenue in the wee hours of October 15, 2005, and was totally covered-up by the same DA who drove me from Bflo for exposing crimes of other of his ‘political friends’.
Cutler’s motorcyclist victim Keith Borders, simply enjoying late-nite Bflo, has suffered multiple surgeries for neurological injuries, chronic unemployment, & the uncertainty of knowing whether civil action will ever provide the justice that DA Frank J. Clark III (& City Courty Judge Patrick Carney?) made sure never happened.
If Byron is a ‘good parent’, Cutler needs a much, much bigger ‘whuppin’ than his son!

Dick,
Just so this does not get out hand on my end.
So far i have had (1) surgery done on my neck.
It was fusion done at C-5,C-6, in which were as they fused it with a plate and ( 4 ) screws and a piece of a cadaver bone from someone else.
I am to go this month for a disco-gram were they shoot die with along needle in to your disc at several levels to determine the necessary procedure which would be needed for surgery, and at what levels.
I also understand that this is extremely painful !
Really not looking forward to this at all !!!!!
But necessary.
Just wanted to get the facts straight on surgeries.
But as far Cutler goes, there is not a day goes bye that i don’t think about what he did to me and took off like gangster might do after a drive-bye shooting, and the fact that he walked away from a D.W.I. & A HIT-N-RUN/INJURY’S Motorcycle Accident.
Walks i did say from his criminal charges stemming from accident.
As far as Frank Clark
I personally have changed my personal opinion on him.
Do to the fact i had a very lengthy telephone conversation with him,and i truly believe he knew nothing about this until after the fact.
As were it brought to his attention through the media.
Then it was done deal through the courts.
I have to believe him after talking with him , until someone can prove to me otherwise, that he knew about or helped him.
I know that some of you out their won’t like that but i’m sorry .
Yes this does effect my civil suit against cutler, because he should have had those other charges against him. Thanks to his political connections thru CityHall and i definitely blame the judge p carney , for not contacting me to be their to give my version of the actual and true story of what happened that night, not the Drunk > Runner’s version.
Sincerely Yours
