Perrysburg

Craig & David update us on the City’s unwillingness to sell the J.N. Adam facility & grounds to Perrysburg in Catt. county. They both criticize the city for that decision, and Craig complains about the “Birkenstock crowd” on Elmwood as being part of the problem. (Hey! I wear a pair of Bostons on a regular basis.)

I don’t know about you, but all of WNY could learn a thing or two about the Birkenstock crowd on Elmwood - one of a few lone, busy & popular shopping avenues in Buffalo. On Elmwood, cool old stuff gets torn down reluctantly. And that reluctance, in my mind, is a good thing. But I do realize that the time comes when enough’s enough, and the city really should urinate or exit the lavatory.

So, the city ought to do in Perrysburg is sell it for the best price it can get and leave. But $371,000 for 650 acres seems like not at all a lot of money for that site, and it seems to me that selling for the sake of selling is a bad idea. That’s only $570/acre. If the building on the site is historically or architecturally significant, then someone should apply for it to be given landmark status or similar. Homes in Perrysburg with 2 acres of land go for $44,000 or more.

The city should be entitled to get a fair price for that land, IMO. Maybe there are better deals to be had. An auction seems like the best solution.
